Too Much of Information Can Stop You from Making Money Online
Thursday, November 27th, 2008As is usually said, too much of everything is bad, and this equally applies to trying to make money on the Internet.
When I newly began my journey into the Internet to see how I could also legally make money like the gurus I read about, I was fortunate to be close to a guy who had great knowledge of how the Internet works. He was working as a programmer and web administrator at the same establishment as me, so we were colleagues.
Any time I had the opportunity I would ask as many questions I could from him, and since he usually closed late I would make sure I went to him to ask more questions after my closing hour. I didn’t know how the hell websites were made or edited. And even though I attended a seminar on website design, he was the one that actually helped me to see the sense in what I was taught at the seminar.
He was the one that taught me how to use ftp (file transfer protocol) software to upload my files. I’m much grateful to him for his patience in teaching me, even though it was not easily for him to take time off his busy schedule, yet he tried to explain every little detail to me, especially how to upload images to my web pages – I can still feel the excitement I had when I saw my uploaded image showing on my website the very first time!.
He understood HTML (HyperText Markup Language) perfectly well and had built his first website in the late 1990s. That means he’s been around the Internet for long.
However, he had a flaw that never allowed him to make money with his knowledge and skill online.
He suffered from what is known on the Internet as information overload. He knew “too much” about how the Internet works and so he had “too much” ideas about what to do to make tons of dollars on the Internet. Almost on a daily basis he told me about a new idea that was going to fetch him his first one million dollars online.
Because these ideas were flowing like a river, he was always abandoning one project for another and therefore never saw any through to the point it could make money for him. And sad to say, the last time I saw him (that was a couple of weeks ago) he was telling me he was no longer chasing after money on the Internet, but was working on a brick and mortar business. It is really a sad story for him – I sincerely hope he could pull himself together and make a u-turn.
If he had concentrated, say, on providing website designing or programming service to webmasters on the Internet, and grow the business, I have no doubt by now his business would have been yielding good money for him.
That’s what information overload can do to anyone. And on the internet this is very common. Loads of information on different money making opportunities can be heaped on you with the weight of King Kong, and before you know it you are chasing one money making opportunity after another, without success.
Please note this, it is very important: if you will make money on the Internet, you must first know what you really want to do and remain focused on it until you start making money.
That is the simple truth about making money on the Internet that everyone who makes money keeps, including the gurus.
As a beginner, you will have to assess different money making avenues, such as blogging, affiliate marketing, adword, adsense, etc. Yes, you will have to understand some monetization strategies. But after you have gotten your understanding, don’t try to do all at the same time, decide on which one you can start doing easily and quickly and build on it. If you feel blogging is great for you, fine, start off with it, and grow your blog to the level you can start making money from.
If you decide to be promoting affiliate products using Adword, that’s great too, all you need to do is to take it as a business and build it up. That’s when you can make money from the Internet. If you are not focused on something, you won’t be able to build it to the level it would start making money.
To stay safe from information overload, and avoid suffering its consequence, what I do, which I’m recommending to you, is this:
I decide what I want to do, set a target (or targets) and make a plan to achieve my target(s). And I ensure I follow through with the plan by working on the project daily.
For instance, I decided a couple of weeks ago to use my knowledge and experience of the genuine money making strategies on the Internet, to set up a blog to help guide people to the true and proven ways of making money online. Then I decided that in a year’s time I should have about 300 unique and rich contents in the blog for my readers (this is one of my targets for the blog anyway, I will keep the monetary target to myself if you don’t mind). Then, again I made a plan on how I was going to build the blog and achieve my targets, and that includes making a post once daily (I haven’t gotten to this fully, but I’m trying to).
With my focus strongly on MoneyWay Online, and my plan daily worked on, this blog is already achieving success. And I know it would grow into a huge blog on the Internet a couple of years to come if I continue working on it. And if you follow my foot step, I’m sure to see you also at the top of the money making ladder then.
